OCTOBER IS ARCHITECTURE MONTH IN FORT WORTH !!!!

The Third Annual Architecture Month is underway!  During the month of October, AIA Fort Worth will be educating, exploring, and celebrating ARCHITECTURE AS ART, not only with our fellow architects, but with the broader community as well.  We offer several new and very exciting events planned for this year, while continuing a few of the events from last year. 

 

MAYORAL PROCLAMATION 

Mayor Mike Moncrief will proclaim October as Architecture Month at the Fort Worth City Council Meeting at Fort Worth City Hall on September 27th.

ART BY ARCHITECTS - EXHIBIT AND RECEPTION 

Exhibit Dates: October 18-21
Meet the Artists Reception: October 21 from 5:00-8:00 pm
Location: The Edmund Craig Gallery / 3550 West 7th Street

Art By Architects will clearly illustrate the high quality of artistic talent in the local architectural community:  paintings, sculptures, pottery, photographs, and other mediums will be represented by chapter members.

CROSS SECTION - AN EXHIBIT BY AIAFW ARCHITECTURE FIRMS

Exhibit Dates: October 3-28
Reception: October 3 at 6:00 pm

Exhibit at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center recognizes a single project from each firm showing the design process and its contribution to the built environment.

CANSTRUCTION

As part of a nationwide competition, the Fort Worth event held at NorthEast Mall finds teams of architects, engineers, contractors and students building fantastic structures entirely out of canned and boxed foods benefiting the Tarrant Area Food Bank. This event is a must see for all ages!

Celebrate the best of architecture in Fort Worth this year with the recipients of AIA Fort Worth's 2005 Design Awards Program. Then visit with the three distinguished jurors and award winners.  It’s about architecture!

DISCOVERING ARCHITECTURE AS ART

Exhibit Date: October 8 from 9:45 am to noon
Location: Cultural District Museums (begins at the Amon Carter Museum)

Where else can children in 4th thru 6th grade discover ‘haute architecture’ than in the cultural district of Fort Worth?  A progressive “design hunt” will begin at the Amon Carter Museum, progress to the Kimbell Museum, and conclude at The Modern

RECENT WORKS - LECTURE BY DAVID SALMELA, FAIA

David Salmela
, FAIA of Duluth, Minnesota is one of America's leading "critical regionalist" architects. He is also one of three jurors selected for the 2005 AIAFW Excellence in Architecture Awards Program. Arrive early for this special Tuesday Evenings presentation as seating is limited.

TOUR de ARCHITECTURE - BICYCLE TOUR 

Program Date: October 30 at 10:00 am
Location: Begins at the TCU Soccer Stadium on Bellaire Drive S.

Join us for a bicycle ride through Fort Worth, by architectural monuments and down the Trinity River Trail. The ride will have routes for both beginner and more advanced riders.

VISION NORTH TEXAS EXHIBIT 

Program Date: October 14-30
Program & Presentation: October 19 at 7:00 pm
Location: Fort Worth Library - Central Branch
Admission: No admission required.

This exhibit involves four large tables, each with metroplex maps and legos placed on these maps indicating different potential growth patterns in the North Central Texas Region for the next few decades. There will be additional information on boards accompanying the exhibit. Join NCTCOG's John Promise for a presentation on the 19th and learn first hand how we might accommodate the predictions resulting from the recent Vision North Texas Workshop.
